Why Mobile Money payments sometimes need a confirmation step
Mobile Money transactions in many African countries require a USSD prompt or an SMS confirmation from the buyer's phone. This is a regulatory protection — the operator wants the buyer to confirm the spend, not the merchant.
## What the buyer sees
After clicking "Pay" on ZeFile, the buyer either gets a USSD prompt on their phone (dial-in screen) or a push notification from their MoMo app. They enter their PIN to confirm. We receive the success callback within seconds and unlock the originals.
## If the prompt doesn't arrive
Most prompts arrive in under 30 seconds. If nothing comes through, the buyer should check the phone is on, the SIM is the one registered with the MoMo account, and there's network coverage. They can retry from the same payment screen.
## Failed or cancelled payments
If the buyer cancels or the PIN is wrong, the payment fails and the originals stay locked. They can retry immediately. We never charge for failed attempts.
